I mentioned Five Star Go Go Bar in part 1 because it is a live music venue, but in part 2 I want to talk about some of the other go go bars I have visited.
- Rainbow 4 – Nana Plaza
- Rainbow 1, 2 & 3 – Nana Plaza
- Rawhide – Soi Cowboy
- Suzie Wong’s – Soi Cowboy
- Five Star (again) – Soi Cowboy
- AngelWitch – Nana Plaza
- Electric Blue – Patpong
- Safari – Patpong
- Thigh Bar – Patpong
- Sideline – Patpong
- Tina – Soi 22
- Casanova – Nana Plaza
Rainbow 4 – Nana Plaza
There are more beautiful women per square meter in Rainbow 4 than anywhere I’ve ever personally set foot on the planet. 100+ girls in bikinis seven nights per week, dancing on two large stages, most of them under 45 kilos (100 pounds).
Read the other blogs in Bangkok and you’ll see lots of “buts”:
- Yes, the girls are beautiful, but they have bad attitudes
- Yes, there are lots of women but there are too many Japanese men
- Yes, the beer is cold but they don’t serve water
I don’t have the financial statements to back it up, but my common sense tells me that R4 is one of the larger go go bars in Bangkok, and it looks like the most successful. They have a very very very simple formula. Lots and lots of beautiful girls.
My personal experiences here have been good. I have barfined 4 different girls. I took one of them out twice, and another about a half dozen times. They have been friendly, sexy, happy, and not over-priced.
For sheer eye-candy I reckon this is the best place on earth!
Yes, I know I’m fawning, but I’d rather spend an hour over a beer here than anywhere else I can think of if my goal is to relax and enjoy the beauty that God gave us. Rainbow 4 continues to be my favorite go go bar.

Rainbow 1, 2 & 3 – Nana Plaza
All owned by the same owners as Rainbow 4, they share the passion for petite beauties, though the clubs are a bit smaller in size than Rainbow 4. These are also high quality go gos. I took a girl out of Rainbow 1 not long ago, and she was the only working girl that has ever offered me a refund.
The Rainbow group definitely has the go go bar business figured out. All four venues are highly recommended for quality.
Rawhide – Soi Cowboy
It’s obvious to every punter who spends an hour in Rawhide that they have three teams of girls: A, B and C. The ‘C’ team girls are pudgy and average looking. The A-team girls are tall, slender and attractive.
I guess there’s some logic to sending them on stage in groups packaged by quality. If the C-team is on you have a reason to order one more drink and wait for the A-team, but you also have a reason to skip Rawhide and just go to the next club.
I’ve never bar-fined a girl from Rawhide, though I did try once. It has the distinction of being the only go go bar in Thailand where I offered to barfine a dancer and got knocked back.
What I like best about Rawhide is that they have an early show. (A show is a special choreographed performance in a go go bar, usually with the most attractive girls, and frequently involves the girls getting naked, or using props like paint, oil or whips — or all of the above).
While most go go bars wait until the late crowd arrives and the place is full, Rawhide adopts the “happy hour” philosophy with their show, bringing the A-team on at 9:00 pm with a 4 to 6 girl high energy show. The last time I saw it they started out in leather and chains and slowly stripped down until all the girls were only wearing shoes. They writhed naked onstage for a good 20 minutes. Great value!
Suzie Wong’s – Soi Cowboy
Just a few meters down the street from Rawhide is Suzie Wong’s. It’s famous for its totally nude, 4 girl, lesbian show. The time varies but it generally starts about 10:30 or 11:00.
My friend reckons that the best seat in the house is up at the stage, across from the stairs that the girls use to enter and exit the stage. You see them come straight at you as they come on, you’re up-close for all the exciting visuals of the show, and you can watch them leave sweaty and naked at the end.
I’ve never bar-fined a girl from here, but not due to lack of interest. One problem is that I usually drop in for the show around 10:30, get hot & bothered, then move on to another venue, barfining a girl around midnight or so. Some day I’m gonna take one of these little cuties.
Suzie’s is a good, solid go go at any rate, but the Lesbian show is what is currently making it a Bangkok icon.
Five Star – Soi Cowboy
I wrote a lot about Five Star in part 1, but thought I’d briefly mention it again, because it has an all-nude show at midnight that currently features two girls with oil & milk. In a separate part of the same show, 6 girls get naked and writhe sensually on your tabletop with their womanhood just inches from your face.
I not only barfined a girl from here, but I made her my girlfriend. For locals who think there are only ropey old grandmothers working here, I can say its not completely true.
If you plan it right, you can start with the show at Rawhide at 9:00, move to Suzie Wongs at 10:30 and pick up the Five Star Show at midnight, and you won’t have to walk more than 35 meters! Next time you have a friend in from overseas for his first visit to Bangkok, this is a way to totally blow his mind.
AngelWitch – Nana Plaza
You can’t talk about shows and ignore AngelWitch. For the combination of quality and quantity, AW is the place to go. They run shows in “sets” from about 10 pm until about 1 am, with each set lasting 30 or 40 minutes.
The shows are good quality, and offer a variety that I don’t think is on offer at other go go bars around town.
Based on a recommendation I read in someone else’s blog, AngelWitch was the first go go bar I visited on my first full day in Thailand. In spite of that, I have never barfined a girl from this bar.
The lady in charge, Pim, has built a reputation for AngelWitch as the place to go for interesting and creative shows.
That said, you can only do so much in a venue of limited size and a small stage (as opposed to a proper theater — not compared to most other go gos). If you watch the shows at AW on a regular basis, pretty soon you’ve seen it all, and then seen it again. Most go go bars offer either no show or one show, while AW offers a whole series of well-choreographed dance routines that range from slow and sensuous to high-energy lasar shows, so no complaints here.
For the most part, the girls here keep their clothes on, unlike the shows in Soi Cowboy, so it might be appropriate to bring your boss or your wife in for a look. Then again… maybe not.
Electric Blue – Patpong
The first time I ever visited Patpong (long after I’d seen Nana and Cowboy), Electric Blue was the first go go bar I went into. I’ve been back several times since, and there have always been attractive girls and an upbeat atmosphere.
I’ve never barfined a girl from here, though when I was in last week I came very close. The only thing that stopped me was that I had definite plans to go somewhere else later in the night. I didn’t have time for a short-time and I didn’t want to take her long time and drag her along.
I suspect I’ll be back to Electric Blue soon to test out #23, who was young, tall, slender and attractive.
Safari – Patpong
I had heard a lot about Safari Bar from others here in Bangkok, but I’d never gone inside until two weeks ago. Then I was glad I did.
Music is 30 years old, two small stages that are not raised up as high as the BKK standard, with only 4 or 5 girls dancing, but another dozen or two available in the bar.
The atmosphere was to my liking, but might not appeal to someone younger. No hip-hop music here… more likely the Doors. Lots of above average looking women who tended to be tall and slender.
On my first visit in I barfined a dancer, took her home and had a great time. I went back a few days later and took a different girl. She didn’t enjoy it and I don’t think I did either. I think I’m banned from Safari Bar for a while, which is a shame, because this is a really good go go bar with a different vibe from the usual. Definitely one of the go-go bars that’s worth a look while you’re in Patpong.
The Thigh Bar – Patpong
I’ve had other people say that this bar is nothing special, and I suppose it’s not. With 60 baht Heinekens all night long, it probably doesn’t need much more to make me happy, but I seem to have good karma in this place.
On my first venture into Patpong in 2005, my first stop of the night was Electric Blue, but my last stop of the night was here at the Thigh Bar. I walked out with a pretty girl in her early-20’s who, as it turned out, enjoyed anal sex as much as I do… which is to say quite a lot.
The bar actually wraps around the stage here, so you can sit at the bar, get service from the bartenders, and watch the girls without straining your neck. Too often a seat at the stage in a go go bar means an uncomfortable view of the girls, but at Thigh Bar the setup works really well.
Click here to read about the most recent girl i barfined from Thigh Bar.
The roomy interior, the bar placement, cheap beer and a solid lineup of girls (who are also reasonably priced) and not pushy for drinks makes this one of the three go go bars in Patpong (along with Electric Blue and Safari) that get a ‘recommended’ tag from me.
Sideline – Patpong
This is an ‘upstairs’ bar in Patpong where you can see the ‘magical pussy’ shows. A girl smoking cigarettes or opening a bottle with her vagina. Shooting darts to pop balloons, or firing peices of banana across the room. Pulling out a few dozen meters of coloured ribbon, or a string with a few dozen needles tied to it. The girls show off an array of skill with their magical pussies.
These shows are often referred to as “ping pong” shows, since ping pong balls are an old staple among the acts.
Between “shows” this is a regular go go bar, although at the dingy end of the spectrum.
People will say that you should stay as far away as you can from the upstairs bars at Patpong, and generally this is sound advice. However, when your old fraternity brother hits Bangkok for the first time, he may want to see the flying ping pong balls, bananas and darts, and if he does, I reckon Sideline is as good a place to see it as any.
I’ve been there perhaps a half dozen times. I have generally gotten the same treatment I would expect in ‘regular’ go go bars; namely, they remember my name and what I want to drink, I’m given appropriate attention by the service girls and the dancers.
One of the criteria for being in the show is to have a “pussy trick” so some of the girls are obviously hired more for the specific talent than for age or looks, but I have seen a couple of girls here that were early 20s and attractive. Notably, they were not doing ‘tricks’ and it’s hard to know why they weren’t working in a better bar, but that’s one of the mysteries of bar girl life that I’ll deal with in another post soon.
Overall, Sideline is a bit of a hole (pun intended) but it is probably as good as a “Ping Pong” bar gets, and worth a look if you or your buddy really wants to see the show.
Tina – Soi 22
I read on the Bangkok Bad Boy website that there was a go go bar on Soi 22. This was news to me so I went looking for it.
Tina turned out to be the most forgettable go go bar in South East Asia.
It is a small bar, with a small dancing platform and a single brass pole. The girls were old and ugly, and highly aggressive in groping my crotch and begging for drinks.
The best advice I can give you if you want to go is to bring a blowtorch and burn it down before you enter. It’s awful. Don’t go.
Casanova – Nana Plaza
In the same way that you may want to see a Ping Pong show, you might be tempted to visit a Ladyboy bar.
I have copied this definition of a Ladyboy from the Dean Barrett website:
Ladyboy – Also known as ka-toey. These are young Thai men who dress as women (transvestites) and some have already had the operation (transsexuals). They seem to be quite popular in the nightlife areas for foreigners. For example, the Casanova Bar, Temptations Bar, Cascade Bar and the Obsession Bar, all in Nana Plaza, are ka-toey bars. Patpong has its share, the now long gone Clinton Plaza had one. Soi Cowboy has no specific ladyboy bar but sometimes there will be one ladyboy dancing in a bar or hanging about near the top of the soi. Some consider the ladyboys to be more beautiful than the women, and transvestite shows in Pattaya and Bangkok draw in the tourists like flies to a wall lizard’s tongue. Shades of M. Butterfly, many tourists have actually taken a ladyboy to bed and not known it. If the “lady” you have taken from a bar seems to have a deep voice, an Adam’s apple, large hands and feet, is quite tall, refuses to disrobe completely and instead rushes to perform an oral service on you, you might have become a member in good standing of the AC/DC club. Everybody I talk to says they don’t like ladyboys; so where are all the patrons of these bars coming from?
I have only ever vistited one ladyboy bar — Casonova. I went there with a friend who was visiting from Korea and really wanted to see it. I hope I never have to go back.
When you go to Casonova, you will see some of the dancers hanging out in front of the bar, which is common enough at a Bangkok Go Go. Unusually, Casanova has a wooden door; typically go gos have curtains or plastic ‘vertical blinds’ to allow ease of entry.
You open the door and walk into a high-ceilinged space with a multi-tiered stage. You see a dozen dancers onstage, and another couple of dozen around the bar. By comparison to the girls you just saw at the Rainbow Bar these girls are striking in that they are taller, and generally have shapely bodies with enhanced breasts. They probably wear more makeup, but in the dark bar they look quite appealing. With all these 5′9″ busty women with tiny waists, you may think for a moment you’ve stepped into the Thailand version of the playboy mansion.
One of two things will happen. Either you’ll get a really close look at the details, or more likely one of the dancers will talk to you.
When (s)he talks, you will realize that the squeaky Mickey-Mouse pidgin English you’re hearing is not what nature intended. Indeed, it’s a man trying to sound like a woman; or more accurately, trying to sound like a katoey. I’ve noted before how many gay men have lisps, or other stereotyped speech patterns. Of course the reason is that it is effected (affected?) — developed over the years to help communicate to others the fellow’s sexual orientation.
Ladyboys often develop a special voice and accent that helps raise the red flag for you. You should know as soon as you hear them talk.
As Dean Barrett says, everyone I talk to says they don’t like ladyboys, but….
I see men every day walking down the street with ladyboys. I used to think the men were dull-witted and didn’t realize that it wasn’t a girl. I don’t believe that anymore. I think that 99% of men know exactly what is holding their arm as they walk down the street, and it’s exactly what they want.
Not my cup of tea, but, it’s what makes the world go round.
Inside Casanova bar on my visit, I was instantly overwhelmed with every available ladyboy rushing to talk to me, touch me, get my attention and try to get a drink out of me. Now I know why girls who are raped become obsessive about showering after the trauma.
If you really must see ladyboys while you are here, I imagine that Casanova is as good a place as any to do it. It’ll be up close and personal. Just make sure you have plenty of soap back in your room.
