So last night I drank a lot of beer.
The first pint– make that three — pints were at the Big Mango. My favorite (former) go go dancer was with me and she had a Corona and a San Mig Light.
Spotted riodon at the bar and said a quick hello. I told my favorite go go dancer a little bit about him, and she commented that he looked very young. There you go… riodon continues to impress the ladies.
Then we moved over to the new Australian Pub & Grill on Soi 11 (in the space that used to be Twisted Republic). It’s a nice place with a nice fitout. Open, airy, and lots of good looking waitresses in little green and yellow uniforms reminiscent of women’s cricketn or field hockey.
I ordered up a variety of beer that made me think about the old country… Carlton, Coopers Pale Ale, VB and Coopers Stout. We looked at the menu, but decided to eat later.
I’d love to offer a broader review of this place, but we all we did was drink a few beers and talk. I’d encourage anyone in Bangkok to go try it out though… it was a very comfortable venue with a small, but appealing menu.
What happened next is the interesting bit.
We grabbed a taxi to Soi 33. I paid the driver and we walked to Mojos.
Inside we ordered a pitcher of Heineken and some food. We must have been there a while because the food had just been delivered when a guy walked up to me and handed me my wallet.
“Check it please” he said.
Huh?
“Check it please”
I did. Everything was inside. I pulled out a 500 baht note and offered it to him as a thank you but he politely refused, turned and left.
I guess it was the taxi driver.
It’s easy to get disillusioned in Bangkok. So many people try to take things away from you. It was really nice to be taken care of again… the way Thais really do most of the time.
When you get away from the Sukhumvit tuk tuk drivers and the go go bars, Thai people are genuine and decent people who help each other and who help strangers. It was nice to come into contact with the real Thailand on Sukhumvit Road.
Me & my favorite go go dancer stayed in Mojos till the lights came up and it was time to go home. All in all a fun day and night that wasn’t ruined by losing my wallet.

….and after the lights came up? That’s what we all want to read about.
Could this soap opera get any more tense?

Dude. You need a purse.

You’re killing me, Werewolf! You’re killing me from 6,000 miles away. We’ve all been rooting for you to win back YourFBG for months…

My vote goes to a pouch. I can see Mr. Wolf sporting a Hello Kitty pouch with real whiskers.
Purse: 1 vote
Pouch: 1 vote

Like days of our lives… with sex.
But good, as is a positive story.

This post is interesting for what it doesn’t say.
Since that’s the case, I’ll comment on Mojos…a perfect example that a well-run business can do well, even in lean times. Don’t know what it was like at closing time, but I’m told at 10 on Wednesday it was quite busy. It was also busy Tuesday night I’m told. I was there last Saturday, and it was packed. In fact, it has been a long time since I’ve seen a slow night in the place.
I tend to think of the g-club of which I’m a member, the St. Moritz, as simply a larger and more elaborate (and more expensive) version of Mojos. Mojos remains one of my favorite places in this town.

I have been writing glowing reviews on Mojos for years now. It is probably my favorite bar in Bangkok. It was doing good business on Wednesday night. Live music, pretty coyote dancers and great food. All at a decent price. Fantastic.

……. and? ……

Come on WW you’ve singularly failed to answer the major question everyone’s “not” asking ……….
Did you nail her ??!!

With all the negativity going around about Thailand it’s really good to hear something so positive.

I’m not bothered about this chick. It’s the nurse I’m worried about. But then I always was one for the underdog. I support the Red Sox too.

Illusion. disillusion. undisillusion
What is the message of the headline? Still nourishing illuisions? A Freudian slip? Or just a very unusual linguistic slip coming from WW.
Similar to what you find at BigC. They are marketing Antideodorants, maybe to take away the effect of the deodorants and restoring the odors.

I hardly thought of it as a slip… in fact I thought it was clever wordsmithing (a la “uncoffined” http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/deanie_mills/2007/05/the-lost-boys-uncoffined.php )
My linguistic “slips” are legion actually. I often use the object form of pronouns as subjects in my sentences, and other ‘conversational’ devices to make my writing mildly more colorful than it’s usual dry-as-toast style.
To wit:
Horribly offensive grammar, but I get away with it because it is the way people — well, Americans, anyway — commonly speak.

What could possibly be the reason for having the wallet outside the pocket “during” the taxi ride? Don’t you just reach for fare money when getting ready to get out of the taxi? It would be hard to lose it in those few moments.
June 12, 2009 at 2:01 am |
Dude, if I knew how I manage to lose so much shit in a matter of moments I’d stop doing it. I just reach for the fare money when I get out of the taxi. Somehow I still manage to fuck it up in just those few moments. It’s a talent…

i have to second swampthing – the nurse, from what you’ve wrote, appears to be a genuinely lovely person, and she appears to think that you’re good enough to like and to sniff-kiss at her work.

WW: It is probably a combination of things as to why you lose shit.
First… perhaps lack of sleep allowance. Second, perhaps ADD (attention deficit disorder), which is a good and bad thing (I have it in some ways btw)… Good in a sense that you could be an effective multi-tasker. Bad, in a sense that some shit does not get done in the end… no follow though in other words in things that you really don’t want to know the outcome of… usually not business related, but personal in nature….
So there you go… a psychoanalysis for free.
June 12, 2009 at 8:47 am |
Gee… if there’s one thing I DON’T think is wrong with me, it’s ADD. I’m rather the opposite, and a shit multi-tasker. I am the King of follow through.
I think it’s more clumsiness. I dunno….

“I told my favorite go go dancer a little bit about him, and she commented that he looked very young.” I was really happy when I read this then of course I realised it all depends on what little bit you told her ! Looked good by the way, her not you!

Invest in a small metal chain, loop it into your wallet, clip it onto your pants buckle and your sorted.
